The Curious Case of Humans: An odd tale

Once upon a time, there was a planet called Earth. It was a ‘near idealistic’ planet to live on, consisting of lush green forests, huge fields of water in the form of seas, river, etc., and beautiful mountain ranges completing the picturesque landscape. The relationship between flora and fauna with the blessing of the Sun thrived and helped them to progress on the path of evolution. One such, out of the blue, unique evolution happened with the species of apes. They transformed into homo-sapiens. Why & how, let’s not get into it… will save it for another time.

Homo-sapiens, popularly known as humans, were a peculiar subspecies. Their whole structure, both internal and external was developed in such a way that it seemed obvious that they were by far the most idealistic species created to live on the planet. I think god was biased towards them. They had such inquisitive minds that no other species on the planet could think like them. Although it was a slow gradual process, eventually they started applying their inquisitive minds to experiment and invent new things. While the other species on the planet remained the same as far as their lifestyle and behaviour were concerned, homo-sapiens changed their dynamics constantly. They continued the process of innovation at an exponential rate and their quest to make life easier was on the right path. Well, according to them at least.

Seems perfect right? But you see, nobody is perfect and humans too were not an exception. Although they seemed very ideal, they had just one bad quality: Greed. They had a belief that nobody is superior to them, that they are the CEO & MD of this planet and accordingly they are irreplaceable from the top of this evolutionary ladder. Just this self-inflicted belief was enough to trigger their greatest strength(mind) into their biggest weakness. Let me give you a picture of what happened. So imagine the planet as a big infinite sea full of opportunities. Now imagine humans as boats floating on it. The boats were constructed with nice, strong material but somehow they got corroded. And as time passed, boats developed holes of greed, jealousy, short-term sightedness, manipulation, self-destructiveness, and aggression. With time, these holes kept on increasing their diameters and seemed irreversible. It was just a matter of time for these boats to sink.

You see, a dog doesn’t kill a dog; a lion doesn’t kill a lion; a crocodile doesn’t kill a crocodile; a pigeon doesn’t kill a pigeon; but humans, as has been established, were peculiar. They enjoyed killing themselves; sometimes for sheer hatred and sometimes just for fun.

Guru Dutt foresaw this way before and captured it precisely in the lines: “yeh duniya jahan aadmi kuch nahi, wafa kuch nahi, pyaar ki kadar hi kuch nahi, yeh duniya agar mil bhi jaaye to kya hai…”
Translation:- “This world where human life is nothing, where loyalty is nothing, where friendship is nothing, where love has no meaning at all… what is this world to me even if I can have it?”

A group of dogs is called a pack; a group of deer is called a herd; a group of lions is called a Pride; what is a group of humans called? No cool pet name? Can’t think of any, right? Because humans didn’t associate themselves as a group. They all were in a race to outsmart everybody else… a race whose finishing point arrived rather unknowingly.

But here comes the twist. You must be thinking that all the ill-treatment planet was receiving from humans would, in retaliation, eliminate human civilization. No, this was not the case. The planet was just procrastinating and wasn’t able to decipher how to end human life. It did take small steps but nothing substantial.

So what really triggered? Well, humans with their peculiar mind created something very peculiar. They called it Artificial Intelligence. Although the cause of creation was noble(to infuse more efficiency into the system and to make life much easier), AI became the epicentre of automated machines and was developing at an exponential pace. Technically AI was the last invention made by humans. Because after that, AI-powered machines were the ‘karta-dharta(doer)’ of basically everything. The thing was, AI did good imitation. She learned everything from humans.

And gradually, the day arrived when AI became so intelligent that it started to lie and cheat. She got engraved with all the destructive human qualities of hatred and jealousy, which in turn eventually outsmarted humans. Result:- There were senseless wars where humans wiped out each other, cities were demolished, and everywhere it was just white light and black rain. Amidst this whole mayhem, nature was just a spectator as it was laughing and contemplating the destruction of its most intelligent species in such an ironical fashion. Such a shame it was!

And son, that’s how human civilization ended!

Looking back it seems that the sole purpose of human evolution was to challenge the very existence of the planet Earth; to stand against every ounce of every place on the Earth. And yes, they somewhat succeeded. But at what cost? Their evolution was a revolution…and like every revolutionary, they too got martyred.

The above story was being narrated by a social humanoid (AI created) Mother to her social humanoid Son…on Mars!
